My Last Halloween Project - Not Doll Related

I made this costume for the Dancer when she was 15. She wanted to wear it to a gaming convention called Origins. She's worn it a few times since, and she wanted to wear it to work today. The bodice desperately needed new binding, and I originally made the off-the-shoulder sleeves too large and too loose. So the Dancer and I drove out to a quilt store to pick out new cotton fabric for the binding, then I made some bias strips. The Dancer helped me rip off the old binding, I machine-sewed the new material on, then flipped the binding over the raw edges and hand-sewed it down. I also folded the sleeve material in half, tacked it together, and re-sewed the sleeves back on to the bodice by hand. She freshened up the fabric paint on the front and back of the bodice. I made this back in the original Frozen I heyday, so I was fortunate enough to find pre-printed material for the skirt. It doesn't look exactly like the movie, but I wasn't up for making a paneled skirt, and hand-painting several panels with the movie-accurate pattern. :P I also found her necklace, and the hair comb that Anna wears with this costume, on Etsy. I'm glad the Dancer has gotten as much wear out of this as she has, and of course she's planning on wearing it when she goes to see Frozen II.

I hope you all had a great Halloween. We don't get trick-or-treaters here, which I find sad. Maybe someday I'll have grandchildren to go out with.

  1. Well you did a great job of revamping the dress Barb and your "Dancer" is looking pretty pleased with your results. :)

We don't get them here either, but in someways it can be a blessing in disguise . . . especially if you're tucked up in your PJ's watching the tele.
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. Thank you! I took this picture after she got home from work, and she'd had some fun with her co-workers. Having a stream of little visitors will distract from a cozy evening, I'll admit. :)

  2. I really like this! Lucky she wanted an Anna dress. Elsa's looks a lot more complicated.
We had our first trick or treaters ever this year and it was pretty cool. Also since the etiquette here was that you only knock at houses that had decorations or an orange streamer on the letterbox, it was pretty simple to just rip off our streamer when we were over it! (Except now little boy is full of sugar and cranky and pushing his luck)

    1. Yes, I'm glad that I didn't have to do an Elsa dress, although she does have an Elsa type dress that she wore at her last recital, when they did a dance to "Let It Go." She identifies a lot more with Anna, though. :)

I imagine the trick-or-treating must have been fun! Here in the US, it's a general thing to have your front porch light on if you are handing out candy. Hope your little boy got over his sugar rush quickly.

  3. Looks good to me! It's always nice when a costume lasts and lasts and lasts. It's a sign that the costume was well-made! ;-)

I had candy ready to give out to the kids, but the wind here was some kind of sharp so I left my light off. So I don't know if my neighborhood had any or not. Last year we did.

    1. Thank you! It was rainy and windy and cold here, but I know people who were planning to go out. We don't have a lot of kids in our neighborhood, and I guess the few we have go to other places.

  4. Well, happy belated Halloween to you too. Your daugther looks great in her costume. Did you end up giving up the Instagram challenge? I haven't seen any updates...
    Take care.

    1. I didn't give up as much as got sidetracked with other things, like working on this costume. And there were some days where the topics just didn't inspire any creativity on my part. I had fun with the challenge, though. I'm glad you like this picture. :)

  5. Glad to read that you had a happy Halloween. I've checked some of your Halloween theme photos: they were fun to see. Stimulated me to dress a few dolls, but alas, did not post the photos. Maybe soon? Will see. Thanks for sharing your Halloween projects, dolly and otherwise.

Love the dress you made Your Dancer. The full skirt looks fun to navigate -- occasionally ;-). She looks happy and proud to wear the dress.

    1. Glad you liked the photos. I'd like to see yours sometime, when you can.

The Dancer kept talking about how she was wearing "a ball gown," so I think she was excited about the chance to wear something different. She loves the idea of cosplay. We're thinking about making something Wonder Woman style next.
