October Instagram Challenge Day 1: Leaves

Since I'm taking part in a doll-related Instagram challenge, I thought I might as well share the pictures here as well. Also here, we can chat about them!

The grass that Stacie is lying on, is plastic turf that I bought at a craft store. I can't believe how nice it looks in the photo.

Did you get to play in the leaves when you were a kid? We had several large trees in my front and back yards when I was a kid, so leaf raking was a way of life every year. I'm old enough to remember burning leaves and yard waste in a big metal barrel with holes in the sides, too.

  1. When I was eleven, my grandmother gave me my aunt's old Chatty Cathy doll. That same fall Grandma's trees turned yellow and dropped their leaves all in one day, and being children my sister and I had to romp in the leaves. I don't remember how the doll got involved, but somehow Grandma got a picture of my sister, me, and Cathy sitting in that pile with leaves on our heads. I don't know where that picture is now, but it would've worked nicely for this challenge. Can't beat autumn leaves!

    1. I know! I also loved scuffling through piles of leaves while walking. If you find that picture, you need to put it up on your blog.

  2. We were never allowed to play in the leaves but I remember getting into trouble for hitting my mother's Japanese maple with a rake to make the leaves fall off, because I was sick of having to rake them every weekend.
I'm still not above stepping on autumn leaves to make them crunch!
That grass looks amazing. I thought it was real

    1. Honestly, the grass looks a lot less impressive in person than it does in the picture. But that's probably the best way, since the grass is for being in pictures.

I understand your kids a little bit better now. :)

  3. Such fun playing in the leaves in Autumn. As long as it stays dry and they are not too soggy! We get lots of leaves here, and I have taken various photos of the dolls, Henry, Peggy Sue etc...playing in them and 'helping' to rake them up on several occasions.

    1. Yes, crunchy leaves are fun, soggy leaves, not so much. I will have to look for your photos of Henry and Peggy Sue and the gang raking. By the time we were done raking leaves when I was a girl, we could have a row about five meters long and up to my waist. Poor Peggy Sue and her friends would find that a bit much.

  4. We have a large Golden Elm and Liquid Amber in our front garden Barb and every Autumn our lawn gets covered with gold, orange and red leaves. I love hearing the crunch under my feet as I stroll around the garden . . . and yes, when it's in piles I cannot resist kicking them about, just as I did as a child. :)

Your photo is a great beginning to the challenge, I hope you have fun with it.
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. Thank you! I'll have to look up what those trees look like. In my childhood house, we had oak, maple and white dogwood.
