My Collection Part Eight: Charlotte, Cinderella and Fairytale Basic by Tonner

Charlotte's mold was used for the 16" Miss America dolls, not to be confused with the 18" Miss America dolls. She was also produced many times in her own right, going by the name Charlotte. The two Charlotte dolls that are own are the Vintage Basic Miss America, whom I bought nude, and the Basic Black Charlotte. I have since taken Vintage's hair down.

Charlotte also makes a good model for my Madame Alexander Meet Me in St. Louis fashion, originally made for the Alexandra Fairchild Ford 16" doll. The outfit came on a Judy Garland doll with the Alexandra face mold, which MA managed to make a pretty good likeness. I have since sold off the doll, but I love the outfit, even if the white satin has yellowed. The dress doesn't zip up all the way on Charlotte, though. Yes, this dress has a working zipper!

Basic Black Charlotte is wearing her original swimsuit and hairband. I was vacillating on keeping her, because her coloring and face paint is so similar to Vintage Charlotte. Also, the top of her head almost looks flat, because of her hairstyle, I think. I decided to keep her for now.

The Cinderella face mold was a runaway favorite. In addition to all of the Cinderella doll variations made, her face was used for dolls like Phantom of the Opera Christine Daae, Juliet from Romeo and Juliet, and Tonner's Re-Imagination line's Vasilisa. Vasilisa is a Russian fairy tale character, and the Re-Imagination line featured fairy tale dolls in new styles. The doll store Cherished Friends even had a store exclusive Cinderella with the coloring of the owner's daughter, called Amy's Cinderella. The mold was also shrunk down slightly and used for Tonner's Cami doll.

I own Cinderella Basic - Strawberry, and Dreams Come True Cinderella, whom I bought nude. Dreams Come True was wearing a blue ball gown and tiara, representing Cinderella going to the ball, which is why she has a very intricate updo. Also pictured here is my last adult Tonner doll, the Re-Imagination Fairytale Basic doll, in her original clothes.

We have reached the end of my adult Tonner collection, but I still have two more girl dolls and a young teen Tonner doll in my collection, who are coming up next time.

Total dolls: 37

    1. Thank you, the grandmommy! I'm glad to be past taking pictures of the taller dolls and start on ones that are easier to photograph. :)

  2. Oh Barb, I adore your Cinderellas!! They have the most beautiful faces. :) Your Charlottes are lovely too but they don't grab me quite as much. And you would know already that if I had to choose, I'd pick the redhead. LOL!
    Big hugs,

    1. Thank you! I've been wanting to change my blog header, but the color change was partially inspired by you. I decided I needed to go outside of my normal choices.

  4. They are all very beautiful but I love the one red haired doll, Strawberry?. She is gorgeous. I keep thinking I need one of these dolls but then that could lead to a whole new collection!

    1. Yep, Strawberry is the redheaded one. She's one of the favorites in my collection. I know what you mean about starting a whole new collection. I think hard before I bring a new kind of doll home, because you never know what you're letting yourself in for. :)

  5. The Charlotte's heads both look a bit flat to me. But their faces are lovely. I love the Meet me in St Louis dress.
I think out of this group, the red head Cinderella is my favourite.
Now I feel bad because I haven't gotten around to posting about my new girls yet.

    1. Yep, that's the same problem I have with the Charlotte heads, that they look flat. Maybe I can do something with Basic Charlotte's hair to improve her look. The red haired Cinderella is my favorite out of this bunch too. She's one of the stars of my whole collection.

I had to keep that Meet Me in St. Louis dress when I sold off the doll. I enjoy that movie, and most of the clothes were fairly close to period correct.

I'm looking forward to seeing your new girls, but don't feel bad! I feel bad myself because it's been forever since my last post.

  6. The dolls are so pretty. The last three are striking. My favorite is the one on the right with the long brown hair. She is wearing an off the shoulder dress.

I look forward to seeing your next posting of dolls.

    1. Thank you! The one on the right is Strawberry Cinderella. She's a Tonner collector favorite, for sure. I'm going to try to get my next post up sooner than last time!

  7. Thank you! I'm glad that I own the two Cinderellas that I do, because it definitely wouldn't be easy for me to get another one, either. Best wishes finding one for yourself! I thought about a high ponytail for Charlotte, too, or maybe a partial ponytail.

  8. I have never bonded with my Cami and I will sell her as soon as I can, but I like how your Cinderellas look. Maybe the Antoinette body doesn't suit this sculpt? I really like the figure of the older dolls. Will you dress the leotard one? Also, the Judy Garland outfit is fantastic! Some chlorine-free bleach and sunlight will take care of the yellowing, I've had excellent results even on old and delicate lace.

    1. Yes, I don't know if the Cinderella sculpt looks as nice shrunk down to the Cami sculpt, although a lot of people seemed to like her at the time. I'm planning on trying to make new clothes for all of my 16" dolls, so hopefully the Cinderella in the leotard will get something nice. Her updo is calling for a fancy gown. Thanks for the tip on the Judy Garland outfit. I should try to get that taken care of before winter rolls in and we get a lot less sunlight here.

  9. I love Tonner dolls. The Cinderella mold is my favorite. I adore your strawberry blonde. I have the Ultrabasic one but she didn't come with that lovely pink dress. I will get around to posting pics soon.

  10. Hi again! It's taking me forever to catch up with my reading list. I do agree that Charlotte's head looks quite flat on the top, but it looks great with a hat. Maybe with a different style, like a pouffy updo, she would look better.
Cinderella going to the ball looks gorgeous, and her updo is really beautiful. I think she's my favourite from this post.
Hope you have a great weekend ahead.

    1. Yes, Charlotte needs a better hairstyle; I think it should help her look. I would like to get the blond Cinderella into a fancy gown, but I have such a long list of things that I want to accomplish. :( I hope you enjoy your weekend too.
