2022 World Doll Day - In Honor of Dorothy in PA

Technically, yesterday was World Doll Day, but I didn't get a chance to celebrate it until today. World Doll Day was started in 1986 by famous doll artist and collector, Mildred Seeley. It is a day to share the love of doll collecting by giving a doll to "someone special." It is promoted by the United Federation of Doll Clubs, although you do not need to be a member to take part. I especially wanted to give away a doll this year in honor of a blog commenter, that many of you know, Dorothy in PA. Dorothy very kindly spent a lot of time last year getting me signed up as a member of UFDC, as an independent member. This is my way of honoring her time and effort.

Sadly, there aren't any little girls in my immediate circle anymore. So I gave a doll to the daughter of someone I am friendly with, who works at a restaurant that Mr. BTEG and I like to eat at. I've met the girl a couple of times; she is a little cutie and will be turning three next month.

The Girlfriends line is sold at Meijer, if you wanted to know. Thank you to Dorothy in PA for being a great doll friend!

  1. I think this is wonderful idea, however it isn't very popular in Poland where I live. However I try to buy dolls to my nieces on every other occasion.Their favourites are Paola Reina dolls.

    1. Even though it is called World Doll Day, it seems to be mainly a US thing for the most part. I used to buy dolls for my nieces, but my youngest niece is now 13. Paola Reina dolls are so adorable; your nieces have good taste. ;)

  2. I used to post about World Doll Day when I started, but I have forgotten about it the past few years. For many years, I had my finals on the weekend of World Doll Day, so I celebrated by going doll hunting to bigger toy stores (the finals were held in a much larger city than where I live), which I know it's not the point. I don't have any little kids in my life anymore, as my youngest nephew is turning 13 this year, so I don't know who I could gift a doll to.

I don't know Dorothy in PA personally, but she's commented on my blog a couple of times, and she comes off as a really lovely person. So amazing that she took the time an effort to get you signed into the UFDC.

    1. Well, you can always give a doll to yourself, right? ;) The little girl to whom I gave the doll above, is about the only little girl I can think of, even in the extended circle of people that I am acquainted with. Even my great-nephew is in high school now.

Dorothy and I have done a lot of emailing back and forth talking about doll clubs, and she is very nice. I haven't talked to her in a while, though. I hope that she is doing well.

  3. Congrats on getting the UFDC membership! Does it offer any real benefits? We were abroad visiting family and friends on the 11th, but none of the three kids we met like dolls yet. I know we can celebrate our love of dolls in any way we like, but I really wish the WDD logo didn't have that "Give a doll" banner - I feel left out, even though I do give dolls to my adult friends.

  4. If you are a member of UFDC, you get four copies in a year of their Doll News magazine. It's filled with articles mainly about the history of much older dolls, although Ever After High dolls were also included in a recent article. You can also buy older copies of the Doll News magazine, and I think that you have to be a UFDC member to buy items from previous conventions. There are all types of convention dolls, but a lot of them are very expensive. There is a yearly convention, and that also is very expensive, and not in my budget at this time, although it sounds fun. I was also hoping to join an actual doll club, as there are least two in my area, but I haven't been able to.

    1. Those are nice perks! Good luck with the local clubs. We have a local group, but it's not actually a club. The only requirements are to be from the country (it's the size of NH) and to have dolls.

    2. That sounds like a fun doll group to be a part of.

  5. Barb, I am still around just caught up in life's ebb and flow and not reading the doll blogs as much as I used to.

Oh my goodness what a lovely gesture! I am truly honored. Mildred Seeley would be proud of you.

This year on World Doll Day, I had a friend make two outfits for another friend's dolls. The first friend made two additional outfits and sent all four outfits to the second friend. The second friend was so excited and happy.

Thank you for creating a safe dolly haven in this crazy world. It is wonderful to have places to go and just be around friends.

    1. Thank you, Dorothy. I miss seeing you around, but I'm glad that you were able to see this post. I enjoy having dolly friends through blogging.
