A New Resident -- Who Is Not a Doll

Chris at My Barbie's Closet recently put up a post about losing a beloved dog to illness, and welcoming a new one into the family. At the very time I read the post, Mr. BTEG and the Dancer were on their way to pick up a new rabbit to add to our family, which I mentioned to Chris. She said that she wanted to see a picture of our bunnies, so here they are.

The bunny that has been with us since 2018 is named Kip. The Dancer has been thinking for a while that perhaps Kip should have another bunny to play and socialize with. We finally started seriously looking a couple of months ago, and a week ago, less a day, Mr. BTEG and the Dancer drove to a rescue a couple of hours away, and came home with Tallahassee (yes, her siblings were Little Rock and Wichita.)

Here is a so-so photo of Kip from 2018.
Here is a picture of Tallahassee. Hers is a much larger breed than Kip's. Pretty sure Kip is a Dutch rabbit, and Tallahassee is a brown/black Rex.

And a picture of Kip and Tallahassee investigating each other. Until they get their dominance issues sorted out and bond, their pen is split in half, and they get separate time to run around in the Dancer's bedroom.

Having a bigger bunny has been extra work for the Dancer. Talia (her nickname) drinks about twice as much, and pees twice as much, as Kip does. But it seems to be good for Kip to have a fellow rabbit resident, and of course Talia now has a good home. :)

    1. Yep, they're both cuties! We're really hoping they become friends too. We're trying everything we can.

    1. Those are cute names! Are your bunnies birth siblings?

    2. Yes they are. We got them last year a few weeks after my daughter’s previous bunny passed away. So they are just a little over a year old now.

  4. That was so sweet of you to get a second bunny. I always think that animals enjoy having other like animals as companions. If I were the only human, I would want another human friend. That sounded kind of "Star Trekkie" but you get the picture (laugh).

    1. Yep, Kip was the only one in the house without a similar companion. And Kip and our cats don't get along at all, although some bunnies and cats can get used to each other.

  5. I love pet bunnies! I would love to have one, but unfortunately, I'm allergic to them. I've heard that bunnies can be very agressive to one another if they haven't been raised since they were little, so I'm curious to see how this two will sort out their differences. I wouldn't mind to see more bunny content in the future.

Hope you have a nice rest of the week.

    1. Our two have definitely been aggressive, but we're hopeful that they can work things out. Kip got taken to the shelter to meet Talia, and she seemed to be the best suited to bond with Kip, which is why she was chosen. I will keep in mind the request for bunny content!

  6. They do need some time, definitely, and they need to figure out which one will be the "alpha" bunny. So far, neither one wants to give way. They are both stubborn. :)

  7. Ooooh these are lovely, I used to have a rabbit many years ago but it was a little dwarf one. The new guys fur looks like it is incredibly soft, like velvet. I hope that soon they'll become good friends and don't need to be separated any longer :)

    1. Yes, Talia's fur does feel just like velvet. Kip's fur is so soft, but Talia's is even softer. We're giving them supervised "together time" every day, so we're hoping that that day comes soon. :)

  8. Oh they are precious. I lost one of my pups recently and was thinking about a new addition. Not sure I am ready though. But I know seeing a new furry face can bring much happiness.

    1. It is so hard to lose a pet, especially since they are such individuals. You miss all the little quirks as well as the companionship. We've always owned multiple cats, and now we have two rabbits, so it helps to still have animals to love, even after losing one.

  9. Oooo! Cute little bunnies! I like the new one, she's pretty and looks soft.
It's awesome that you got a friend for the one you already had, I hope they get along soon.

    1. The new bunny is *very* soft, and also more amenable to petting than Kip. Ya'll will be the first to hear when they make friends! :)

  10. Hi Barb, I love your bunnies, they are both so cute and everyone needs a friend, even bunnies. I hope you will post more photos of the two of them down the track. I do hope they are the same sex though. We have never had bunnies, but we have had plenty of guinea pigs and they breed just as quickly as bunnies. :)
    Big hugs,

    1. I will be posting more photos, since it seems they are pretty popular. They are different sexes, since that seems to be the best pairing to allow bunnies to get along. They've both been neutered, though, so there will be no baby bunnies.

    2. So no hanky panky will be going on there then, that's good . . . just for a moment, I had visions of you being overrun with bunnies Barb. :)
