October Instagram Challenge Day 8: Pumpkins

I took this picture at the same time that I went to the farmer's market/pumpkin patch for my Day 5 picture. The white "pumpkins" that you see further back are called ghost pumpkins, but I'm pretty sure they're just another type of gourd.

Mr. BTEG dug out his old recipe for homemade pumpkin pie last Thanksgiving, and the pies were a huge hit. We can wait awhile to buy pie pumpkins, though.

ETA: Nope, ghost pumpkins are just albino pumpkins, and they're orange on the inside, to boot.

  1. I love images of pumpkin patches! I love the color palette, that's how fall should look like. Here the weather is still super hot and some people are still wearing shorts. I just want fall weather to happen and start wearing long sleeve!
My father in-law grows his own pumpkins, but very few for personal use and not to sell them. However, here the common type is the peanut shaped pumpkin, but I don't know if those taste any different to the "american" ones.

    1. I love all the fall colors too. I have to admit that I am definitely tired of super hot weather by the time summer is over.

Over here we have several kinds and shapes of gourds or squashes, as they're called. I don't know much about their taste, but I think at least some of them are different.

  2. Oh Barb, this is the best photo yet, I really love seeing all these pumpkins together like this. I have never heard of Albino pumpkins before, nor have I ever eaten pumpkin pie, but I do love pumpkin soup. YUMMY!!

You are doing so well with this challenge.
    Big hugs,

    1. Thank you! I'm glad to have support for the challenge, because it has been a lot of work. However, the benefits are far outweighing the effort.

I've never tried pumpkin soup, but there are lots of people up here who eat it, as well as everything else that you can imagine that can be made with pumpkins.

  3. I love the sea of pumpkins. It could be a doll maze.

  4. I had a moment looking at this, when I thought that's how pumpkins must grow! Even though I know they grow on a vine.
These look much fresher than the slightly mouldy pumpkins they sell here in October. . . Now I want pumpkin!

    1. Yep, these pumpkins were at the front of the market, for those who didn't want to take the ride back to the pumpkin patch and pick their own. I have some pictures of an actual patch from last year's trip to a farm further out of town.

Now that you have a small garden area, you should see if you can grow pumpkins of your own.

  5. Those pumpkins are so pretty. We don't see many pumpkin patches down here (maybe they don't do well in the South?), so I enjoy looking at pics like this. That is so weird about albino pumpkins being orange inside--I assumed they were white or maybe peach-colored.

    1. Apparently there are all different kinds of white pumpkins, but I'm pretty sure the ones in the pic are just albino ones. It's too bad that you don't have a lot of pumpkins where you are.
