Ever After High 2-in-1 Castle Playset Review

This was my big Christmas gift from Mr. BTEG and my daughters. And I do mean big! Fortunately for me, I was able to rearrange doll displays and get this castle onto the top of one of my dressers.
I took a lot of pictures of this, and some of them are not perfect. One of the problems is that I was struggling to find a way to get decent lighting for the pictures. But I'm tired of putting off getting pictures of my great new toy online, so it is what it is. Loads of pictures after the fold!

The bridge and stairs can be removed from the two room pieces. The two room pieces can then be pushed together and locked into place with in and out pieces that snap together. Those can be freed with the white lever on the bottom left of the top picture. The main castle pieces also have little hooks to hold them together.

You can also see one of the little dwarf details, like the ones on Apple's Fainting Couch.
This playset is called 2-in-1 because the backs of the rooms have a piece that can flip back and forth like a book page. Each "room" section therefore has two scenes that can be displayed. Starting at the top left, is Ashlynn Ella's closet, including her incredible selection of shoes. That can become a music room.
Below that is Holly and Poppy's bedroom, that can turn into the "castleteria."
On the top right is Raven's bathroom. This can turn into one of the school halls. Also visible in the bottom picture, are the holes in both of the top two rooms where the posts from the EAH doll stands can be placed, to pose the dolls. There is a hook at the top of every room, so the chandelier I have hanging in Raven's bathroom can be moved from room to room. This chandelier came with the set.

Lastly is a sitting area for Apple, that becomes a library.
The playset also came with furniture and accessories, that correspond to one of the rooms.

Shoes for Ashlynn Ella, and a writing table that can become a mirror similar to the ones used in shoe stores to see how shoes look on you. Standing up this mirror is rather awkward.

A furniture piece that doubles as a counter in the "castleteria," with a tray full of sweets, and a dressing table with comb and brush included.

In Raven's room, a chair that can double as a throne, and well, a "throne." In American slang, the toilet is called the "throne." Seriously Mattel? This one was kind of juvenile.

This room also gets a mini locker. The lock is very detailed, but doesn't stay closed.
Apple only gets one furniture piece, since both of her rooms can be used for sitting. However, her couch is probably the best piece in the set. It's not as sturdy as EAH pieces made for separate sale probably were; however, it is very detailed.

There are lots of places that will hold up your dolls for display. In addition to the holes for EAH stand posts in the top rooms, there is also one on the top of the castle. I haven't been able to get a post to really lock in here, though.
There are three post holes on the top, middle and bottom of the staircase, and a seat where a doll can sit and "slide" down the bannister.
There are also four waist grippers that fit into the golden posts on either side of the bottom rooms. These are unique to the castle, and do not work with regular EAH stands.
There's also a post on the bridge, where this clip snaps in, and the doll can look like she is walking across the bridge. I haven't quite got this feature sorted out yet.
Speaking of the bridge, as a good fairy tale high school should have, there are trolls living underneath a bridge on campus. These trolls are often seen in the animated series. One of them is detailed on the bridge.
And as you saw waaaaaaay up above, there are little dwarfs in places on the top and bottom of the gold posts holding up the second floor.
This is just an incredible set. It's great for display, I presume it would be fun for a child's play, and it shows everything that Ever After High can be. It has intricate patterns everywhere, and many small details that hearken back to both the animated series, and the original fairy tales. I personally adore the bright explosion of color now displayed on my dresser, and I'm very thankful to my family for buying me this set.

  1. Wow! That playset is huge! It has some cute details, specially Apple's couch. In spanish we use the word "throne" to refer to the toilet aswell. I guess that was the only thing they could come up with if they could only design one piece of furniture per room. I'd love to have some playsets, but I don't really have room for that. Maybe if I win the lotto I can move to a bigger house hahaha!

    Cheers!

    1. I agree that it is hard to find room for playsets! It helps that I am using this one mainly for display, and fortunately this playset has a lot of extras that make display easy. I, too, would like to have more room for my dolls and other hobbies. Fortunately, I should get at least a little more space when my daughters move out. I'll have to compete for space with my husband, though. :)

  2. Okay, I'm absolutely dying at the toilet. That's so awful!

    1. Yeah, I'm surprised that idea got through. Fortunately, it's perfectly useable as a regular chair.

    2. Modern dollhouses include a toilet. You have to have one! And since this was a castle they couldn't do a modern toilet. It's kind of like the potty chairs they had in Victorian times. So it fits their theme of everything having two uses (Which I love, by the way. Double play opportunities for your money.), and it's far better than the pile of straw in the corner they would have had in real castles!

    3. Oh sure, be all logical about it! I get what you're saying, I still just think it's... weird. I suppose some little kids will love it.

    1. Yeah, I think kids would have a fun time with that stair slider. I wish I could do that in real life!

  4. Wow! EAH has not released that many sets for their line. I take that back, they have not released many LARGE sets. They usually do individual character sets. It's very interesting... including that "toilet."

    1. No, there haven't been a lot of large sets. The last set we got was for Way Too Wonderland, which was quite a while ago. Glad you find it intersting. :D

  7. That's beautiful! I love it. I especially like the way they've put in the places for the doll stands, that's really cool. I'm so glad none of the shops near us ever seem to have any Ever After High stuff or I'm pretty sure I would never have any money at all.

    1. Thank you! I was pleasantly surprised by all the places for doll stands too, especially since mine is for display and not play. Most of my doll money last year went towards Ever After High; fortunately I got a lot of them on sale!
