She Blinded Me With Science
As you may have noticed, I've had the same blog header for quite a long time. I keep wanting to do a summer beach photo, but I don't have everything I want to do that. Since back-to-school time is happening here, I decided to do a chemistry class picture, using the two Re-ment Science Class sets I bought recently. I feel now like maybe I should have filled the beaker with some colored water. :) Still, I did at least make sure both girls are wearing eye protection.
Neither set cost very much, because as you can see, neither set came with very much. Below is a picture of both sets together. One class was supposed to be boiling water. One class was supposed to be baking a toffee cake experiment. Neither are particularly scientifically rigorous. Maybe they're themed so little kids don't get the idea to try more potentially dangerous things. For the low price, I thought it was fun to have a few science bits and bobs.
I've looked at these. I'd like to have some of the bigger sets, but they are pretty pricey.
ReplyDeleteI agree that having a couple of the bigger sets would be nice. Maybe at some point I'd like to get the set with a few beakers and the test tube rack.
DeleteThey are so cute with their safety glasses on. Safety first! I have the whole science set, and I love it. It's so detailed. Perfect for the upcoming school year.

DeleteOh, I was just looking at these on ebay... the frog dissection and the anatomical model were my favorites (and everybody else's too, judging by prices).
ReplyDeleteWe never made toffee as an experiment, but we did burn sugar (or rather, our teacher did). It turned into a crispy bubble of charcoal that I'll never forget. Good times.
I still have bad memories of frog dissection. I was not cut out for biology class. The main thing I remember from chemistry class was the day we worked with sulfur. Ugh! Oh, and the one day some kids at another table accidentally caught a piece of paper on fire, panicked, and threw it out the window. Fortunately, it didn't catch anything else alight.
DeleteLuckily we never had to dissect a frog (funding reasons, probably) but they did have us dissect a herring or something once in second grade. As I recall, I refused and just hid my face in my hands until class was over.
DeleteAnd then there was the time they demonstrated why you don't put out a grease fire with water...
We dissected a frog and a cricket in high school. My daughters, on the other hand, dissected a fetal pig in biology class in high school!
DeleteThis brings back bad memories, lol. Science and biology were my worst subjects. All those different smells and squishy things, bleck. The girls look adorable though.

DeleteThe sets are cute and quite realistic looking (they didn't paint everything pink). Great if you are into dioramas
ReplyDeleteRe-Ment makes awesome stuff, with lots of detail, which is great for adding that extra look to a diorama. Some of the older stuff is unfortunately very expensive, but the newer items are great, if they fit your tastes.
DeleteThis science set if nice. I have been looking at the microscope from that set. I love the eye protection.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at the microscope set too; I may get it. The eyewear is just Barbie sunglasses, but I couldn't have the girls doing chemical experiments without protecting their eyes! I suppose there are tutorials out there for making doll goggles, at least steampunk style ones. Thank you for stopping by!
