Our Generation Mini-Dollapalooza at Target

Mini versions of established doll lines have been increasing in popularity, manufacturer after manufacturer getting in on the wave. Madame Alexander Travel Friends are not a mini version of a larger doll, but still a small play doll. There are mini Lalaloopsy dolls, Moxie Girlz, American Girls, Corolle dolls, Kidz and Cats, and Our Generation dolls. They're a great choice for economical doll play, which is probably driving some of the popularity. Now Our Generation has stepped up the mini doll game with a new line, Lori by OG. There are new dolls, new outfit sets, a camper, a home with a loft bedroom, and more!

Let me start with pictures of the new dolls first. A couple of the pictures are blurry; I was in a bit of a hurry. I spend too much time at Target as it is! There are a couple of dolls in dance clothes; there was a space on the shelf for a ballet studio, but it wasn't out on the shelf yet. Dolls with extra accessories seem to cost slightly more, but they're still a good price.

Here's the two outfits that were out. Lovely lace! is a cute outfit, but the white "fur" around the top of the boots is plastic and to me it throws the outfit off. I spot you! is, um, interesting. A spotted fake fur jacket and buffalo check pants? No. Just no. I still have hope for future releases. Individual outfit sets certainly are a nice thing to have, although they don't always sell well.
Let's move on to the camper, or as it says on the tag, a glamper. Glamorous camper, maybe? Ugh. Anyway, the camper looks full of play value, with two beds, a table with booth style seating, and a small kitchen area, with some cooking pieces included. There's also a small camping lantern, and it appears there are parts of the camper that light up. Probably above the kitchen, or maybe above the beds for a little reading before bed. I didn't take the time to study the interior too hard.

The crown jewel of this line is the house. It's got a built-in kitchen, with a bar and a few stools. As you can see in a picture above, there's also a separate bed and dresser set for the loft bedroom, and I think the last flight of stairs goes up to a rooftop patio. The herringbone fabric for the blanket is an interesting choice, but it does kind of fit in with the diamond pattern on the pillows and the dresser, I guess. I would have gone with flowers. :)
Not only do small dolls offer play value for a much lower price than their bigger counterparts, the extra benefit of play sets for the smaller dolls, like this camper and house, is that they take up far less space than the OG camper for the 18" set, or a house for the larger doll. It's interesting to me how the 18" doll grew to be so ubiquitous in the doll world, and now manufacturers are taking that 18" paradigm, and turning it on its head. I'm interested to see where this goes.

  1. I saw the Lori house at Target last weekend, but they didn't have anything else. I went back and double checked that the mini versions of their 18" doll line hadn't been changed to 'Lori' dolls. By he way, I thought the OG dolls were a Target exclusive and I was really surprised to see a HUGE display of them in London. They had more stuff than Target. (You'll see all that soon on my blog.)

    1. At my Target, there was a whole side of an aisle full of the regular OG stuff, including the previously released mini OG dolls. Then you turned the corner, and there was a whole endcap full of the new Lori stuff! I'm sure it was advantageous for Our Generation to make a deal with British doll stores, and since there aren't Targets there, there's no competition. I look forward to seeing your pictures.

  2. I am so excited to see these in person. I'm glad they've seemed to add a little more diversity to the line as well. The camper is adorable!

    1. Isn't that camper cute? There's so much in such a small space.

  3. This is a very interesting mini line, with the "glamper" and the house. The dolls look lovely! I think it's best to buy more than one outfit though and mix the garments :-).

    1. I'm hoping that they come out with more outfits. If the sleeves of that one top weren't orange, I might have bought it then and there, despite the boots. Orange is not one of my favorite colors.

  4. They look great, and the accessories are stunning. To bad for the separate fashions, even if I have a thing for that checkered pants with the leopard jacket....LOL

    1. Well, somebody must have liked that fashion to have it approved to be made! :) That's a lot of pattern for a small doll, though. Plus, what animal is that fake fur supposed to resemble?

  5. Nice! I hadn't realized they were expanding their mini-doll offerings, so that's great to see.

  6. The camper and that house are wonderful. If that was a Barbie house, I would run out to get it.

    1. It is very different from a lot of Barbie's stuff, isn't it? I hope this line does well.

    1. I just put another picture of the camper in a new post! I want it because it's so neat, but I don't really have a need for it.

  8. HELP! Where are you finding all these accessories???? I am putting together a dollhouse for a "Santa Tree" ,I found the Lori Dolls and Dollhouse at my local Target. I just assumed that I could find the bedroom, living room set, etc on line or at a nearby Target. I can't find any available in OREGON. Some little girl is going to be very disappointed!!

    1. I've never seen all the furniture pieces at my Target, and now they are only available in store, but not in stock at any stores near me. I'm not sure what the deal is; they're handling this very poorly since Christmas toy season is here. I would talk to your store manager at your closest Target and see if he knows anything about when these pieces will be in stock again.

  9. These pieces are all on sale this week but you can only get the sale prices on the website w in store pickup as most of the stuff is out of stock. I just got the ballet studio delivered today and it is quite impressive!! Love the detail..! The house is either on the way or in the box still in my trunk (not a lot of time)! My local target had no stock but the Target 30 miles away had a lot of the dolls. Too bad it was my husband picking up the mini camper in store for me or I would have bought them all! ;-)

    1. I liked the ballet studio very much myself. If my daughter was younger, it would have been a must-buy, as she does ballet. I would also buy it if it was scaled for larger dolls, but then I suppose it would cost more and the price would put me off. I'm glad you're able to get some things.
