My Collection Part Three: J-Dolls

Well, here we are again, finally! J-Dolls are discontinued now, but they were made by the same company that makes Pullip dolls. They have the same bodies as the Pullip #3 and #4 types. J-Dolls are 27cm tall, and I find them to resemble Momoko dolls the most in the doll world. These are only four out of my collection; the rest will get photographed at a later date. They're all wearing their original dresses, except for Lindsay, who I bought nude. Lindsay also has a new wig, because hers was pretty dry. Lindsay and Anni's shoes are both from Momoko's line.

I printed out the new walls and floor with the new color printer that Mr. BTEG bought me as a birthday present. Do your loved ones find you hard to buy gifts for? Mr. BTEG and my daughters feel that way about me.

  1. The dolls are so pretty. I didn't know about them so thanks for the information.

Your husband was very nice to buy you a printer. My husband is imaginary and he never buys me anything (laugh). I usually tell my family to give me gift cards and then I can purchase what I want. I have a friend who hates getting gift cards but they are my gift of choice.

    1. We used to give our nephew gift cards when he was in college, and we gave a young friend a Steam gift card for Christmas last year (Steam is a place where you can buy games for your PC.) Usually we try to give something specific, though.

  2. Oh, that printer was a thoughtful gift indeed! I love your J-Dolls; they do look a little like Momoko, now that you mention it.

    1. Yep, they do look kind of similar, and they can share clothes and shoes, which I like, because J-Doll shoes usually don't hold together well. In my opinion, though, the inset eyes give J-Dolls an edge.

I'm looking forward to finding out what all I can do with the printer. It's already nice to have more choices for backgrounds.

  3. Your dolls look beautiful. The blue/teal haired one is my favourite, but the others are beautiful too. I also love your new backdrop, with the blue gingham wallpaper and the white panels. Is that type of wall called Wainscot?

The printer is a great gift indeed. I don't have a color printer, my parents bought me the one I have now when I started college, but it's black and white. I was talking to Mr. Monster about buying a color one, but that's way down on our priority list, since we still need to buy other things for the house first.

When it comes to gifts, I feel that I'm quite simple, but others seem to feel that I'm hard to please. I come to the conclusion that those that feel that I'm hard to please are simply not listening or have no real interest on what I really want. Mr. Monster always hits the nail when it comes to what I want though (that's how I knew he was the one, hahaha).

Hope yo have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Thanks for your compliments on the dolls and the background. The white panels are indeed called wainscot, or wainscoting.

Mr. BTEG and I have bought a lot of things for our home over the past couple of years, so it's time to buy some fun items too. Sometimes Mr. BTEG has been good at buying gifts for me, but this time it was just lucky for him, as he was going to order the printer anyway, and I said it could be my birthday present.

I hope you enjoy what's left of your weekend!

  4. I guess I thought Momoko had bigger feet than J-Dolls. I'm surprised. I have a really nice printer Ken bought for me that I have never set up! One of these days I'll get it going and make some miniatures with it.

    1. I have some Momoko pumps that I kind of have to fit around a J-Doll's foot, but everything that I've bought so far fits. It would be fun to have a Momoko and be able to do direct comparisons, but they're too expensive for me to buy one just for that.

I hope that you get your printer set up! It's fun to have the capability to create some stuff for your dolls that way.

  5. That's one big printer! You'll be able to do lots of fun things with that.
I really like your j dolls. I always plan on buying one but whenever I have money, I forget about them or can't find any.
My parents always give money for birthdays and Christmases. My husband used to have a lot of trouble buying for me, but at the moment he's got a list of books I want and buys me those.

    1. This new printer is a lot bigger than the black and white printer that we already owned, but the ability to print in color is just so useful. I'm even thinking about printing my own fabric, once I print more paper things and get to know the printer better.

I like having my J-Dolls, but I bet they're harder to sew for than your bigger dolls. It would be fun to see what you would do with one, but if you're meant to have one, I think you'll find one eventually.

I have lists of gift ideas at various places, but I made the mistake once of throwing a few things for my niece on my own list. It was clearly marked on Amazon from my view, but I guess notes don't show up when the list gets sent to someone outside of Amazon, so my sister-in-law bought me one of those things. So now my family is too afraid to use my lists, even though I've said that I've cleaned them up. :(

    2. If you do try printing fabric, try a few different kinds. The ink will show up with different amounts of vibrancy and bleed depending on the fibre and weave of the fabric. But I found the big issue with home computer printed fabric is that the ink tends to run if it gets wet. Although if it's for dolls clothes, that you can get away with vacuuming instead of washing it's ok. There's other ways to waterproof the ink but they're pretty hit and miss in my experience.

    3. Thank you for the information! I think fabric printing will definitely be a big learning process, but I'd love to be able to print out my own fabric. Although here in the States, we have Spoonflower, which will print out your fabric designs for you. The extra cost would be a trade-off to not having to mess around with getting the print right myself.

  6. Thank you! Yes, I couldn't wait to get started getting new things printed. There are office stores here which will print items for you, but the people that work at them, at least around here, can be kind of grumpy, and there isn't an office store particularly close.

"Petite look" is a good way to describe J-Dolls and Momokos. Have you ever had a Momoko on your wish list?

  7. Momoko dolls are definitely expensive! I bet there are some for sale in Europe second hand, though. That Snow White Momoko dolls is very pretty. She looks like she stepped out of her own fairy tale.

J-Doll retail prices are pretty expensive too, but since they weren't/aren't as popular as Momoko, you can find them at better prices.

  8. Hi Barb!
Happy Birthday! Sorry the wishes are late, but better late than never. :) I haven't seen these dolls before, so thanks for the intro. I really like Rachel, she's gorgeous.
That printer looks like a real giant compared to mine, aren't some thoughtful, it's a perfect gift!
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. Thank you! Rachel's hair is very pretty, and I love the color of her eyes.

Mr. BTEG informed me that the printer is so big because it's also a scanner and can print double sides. So I guess that's why people are saying that it's extra large. It was indeed a great gift.

    2. Mine can too Barb, but it's not nearly as big. What's the largest paper size it can print? I can only print on A4 but sometimes I wish I had the capacity to print on double that size

      Delete
    3. The biggest my printer can print is 8.5" x 14". It can also print A4, and the standard US letter size, 8.5" x 11". I wish I had the capacity to print a lot larger size too, but a printer that size can be a pain. Mr. BTEG had a big one to print out maps for his Pathfinder Society tabletop campaigns, and it seemed like there was always something going wrong with the printer. Plus, it was hard to get a clear, dark color print.

  9. I love the blond girl with the tan, she's very pretty.
I hope you had a great birthday, belated best wishes!

  10. Hi, Barb! Ack! Late happy birthday wish for you. I hope it was a fun one and - of course - I wish you many more happy ones. Congratulations on having these lovely dolls. Of these dolls, I find Anni most attractive because I like her blue hair color. Rachel has gorgeous coloring though. She seems to have a warmer, slightly tanned complexion. Her gold-brown hair looks streaked too.

I've had Momokos - think I still have 4 left - so I checked to see possible shoe matches for your J-Dolls. Possible footwear matches might be Spinmaster Liv, R&D Susie, Azone International's 1:6 scale Original fashion dolls, Volks Who's That Girl Kana or Mami, Sonokong's Ai or Sharp, and there's a pre-teen doll series - American - who had soft bodies and vinyl faces with inset eyes - I cannot remember the series name - but that doll's boots fit Momoko feet. If I recall the name later, I'll return and leave the name of that doll series.

Congrats also on the color printer. My loved ones would buy me "practical things" like clothes, gift certificates, etc. Occasionally, my youngest sister and brother will pick up a doll at a flea market. My Mom would buy me dolls, but the rest of my family either think I have "too many" already, or they wouldn't know what to get. Shrug. I keep myself in dolls though ;-)

  11. Thank you, Dana! I love Anni's blue hair color too; it's so unusual. Rachel's skin tone is a darker tint, and her hair is streaked. She's supposed to represent Australia, so I guess she's been out in the sun a lot.

Wow, thanks for all the information regarding the doll shoes! That's a ton of possibilities. I keep being tempted to buy an R&D Susie. Maybe I will someday.

Nobody in my family would know what dolls to get for me. Mr. BTEG wants a spreadsheet from me of which dolls I have, and which dolls I want. Once the next generation of kids came along in our families, we started buying mainly for the kids. Now the youngest two in the family are hitting the early teen years and are hard to buy for!

  12. You're welcome, Barb!

Re: J-Dolls - I like how Rachel's complexion reflects her outdoorsy life.

My pleasure - sharing about doll shoes. I get tips and suggestions from other collectors. Prior to reading your post, I did not know that the J-Dolls had Momoko-sized feet.

R&D Susies are worth getting. I haven't undressed one in years - I love the fashions the ones I do have wear- but I think she's "anatomically correct below the belt." Just mentioning.

That's sweet that Mr. BTEG wants a spreadsheet of dolls you have and dolls you want. Non-collectors are usually not supportive of collecting.

Kids will cost; I have no kids, but I have pets. They cost, too. Not that we'd trade our loved ones - human or creatures for dolls. Note to self: remember that sentiment the next time Hey Babe the Cat or the turtles scratch me ;-)

    1. I'm so thankful that J-Dolls can wear Momoko shoes, as Groove's track record with shoes, for Pullips and J-Dolls, is awful. The worst was a pair of shoes that disintegrated in the package. I look forward to trying out other shoes.

Thanks for the information about the Susie dolls! I'd never heard that before, but they're fairly rare, so I suppose not a lot of info is online. Still, she looks like a very well-made doll, with great fashions, as you said.

Mr. BTEG is a collector too, so while he doesn't understand why I collect *dolls,* he respects the desire to collect something. Among his many collections, he owns around 4,000 dice. I don't understand that myself. :)

In my immediate family, Eldest Daughter has been independent for several years. The Dancer still lives at home, but has worked full-time for just over two years. So we're at the blessed stage where most of the cost of having kids is gone. However, we do have two cats, and two bunnies, so we have some costs there still. Good thing the pets are all cute. (And good thing the kids were too. :) )

    2. Hi, Barb!

Yikes! Shoes disintegrating. Good thing there's choice.

You're welcome. Larraine from barbigirl.com has some info about Momokos, Susies, and other doll lines. She's updating her Susie page, but you can see some Susies there. I have other links on my blog. I should do a post about her.

that's cool that Mr. BTEG is also a collector. A dice collection sounds interesting - I'd never known that there was much variety in die cubes. I wouldn't have chosen that - but it's good that there are different things to collect. Everyone collecting Barbie and B-clones - how would we ever get anything?

Congratulations on reaching the blessed state where the kids are working. From the cats' and the bunnies' perspectives, their cuteness is their form of "work," lol. Cuteness is a major factor in the survival of life. Oh no. I didn't just type that. Arrghh!

    3. Hey Dana!

Thanks for the information about Larraine's page. I've already looked at a little bit; going to have to check out in more detail.

Part of the variation with dice is that they come in more than just cubes. Mr. BTEG has a die that has as many as 100 sides. There are lots of different sizes, different shapes, different colors, glow-in-the-dark, resin with things inside, sets for your D&D or Pathfinder Society player needs. I can't picture Mr. BTEG and I being interested in collecting the same things, especially dolls. XD

Cuteness is definitely part of the "work" our pets do around here, but they are also good companions. They give me someone to talk to when I'm alone in the house, which isn't as often as it used to be.

  13. J-Dolls are my favourite. It's curious how from the few designs they made, everyone's collection is quite different. I have 16, but only two in common with you ("Lindsay" and "Sophie"). They are difficult to clothe on a budget, but with Pullip and Isul outfits available the possibilities are endless.
And congrats on the printer! Now you can print art, My Froggy Stuff printables, pendant designs (human and doll size) to stick on clear cabochons, book covers and probably even iron-on designs with the right supplies!

    1. I love J-Dolls too (obviously!) The few collections that I see online do look very different from mine, although I haven't seen anyone who has as many J-Dolls as you or I. The dolls can wear some Barbie things too, and probably also Skipper things as well. It never occurred to me that they can wear Isul clothes, but that makes perfect sense.

I have so many plans for the printer. I have been using it a lot, but mostly to print out sewing or knitting patterns so far. It's nice to have those in color, at least. I would also like to try to print designs in color on fabric, but I think that could be a longer process, considering how well my first attempts go.

    1. Two pairs of the shoes are Momoko, which almost always makes good shoes. The other pair are some of the nicest ones that J-Doll has made, but I like the Momoko ones better. :)
